HISTORY ON HORSEBACK
Bring Your Own Horse
Ride along historic trails on our guided History on Horseback tours. Interpretive rides take place on the second Saturday of the summer months (except July) beginning May 11, 2019. Cost is $25 per rider and you need to bring your own horse.
Take part in a unique experience not available anywhere else in the country. Led by a historically uniformed guide, riders will be entertained by the history of fort Stanton and a demonstration of soldiers' horse skills. Put your horsemanship skills to the test as you’re immersed in the intricacies of military drill on horseback. Afterwards, enjoy a tour of the fort and then a trail ride in some of Fort Stanton's most scenic back country.
Total time investment for this unique activity is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Riders will be required to provide their own horses, equipment and transportation.
Riders and horses assemble on the old Army drill field across from the historic fort stables. Reservations are required for this endeavor and the cost is $25 per rider.
Tours begin on Saturday, May 11 at 10:00am with a tour every second Saturday (except July) through September.
